For both Eric and Ward, it was a lifelong dream to construct an elm bark canoe. Few have managed to explore this major undertaking and in 2014, we were fortunate enough to find suitable materials for this dream project. The large elm and all of the components were harvested on Eric's property in Otsego County, New York. We completed the majority of the work during May 2014 and had to put the project temporarily on hold. As a result, we then completed the pitching of the canoe during the Spring of 2015 with the first field test being launched from Fort Ticonderoga into Lake Champlain shortly after. As the photos illustrate, it was an absolute success.
