AT THE EASTERN DOOR
Research based 18th century reproduction material culture and consultation.
There have been two common questions the we have answered the most over the years, If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. here
Q. What is Trade Silver?
A. Trade Silver or more specifically Trade Silver Ornaments are a fairly unique grouping of decorative objects and jewelry introduced into the material culture of the native northeast in the late 17th century, which flourished in the Mid-Late 18th century, and persists into the present era of contemporary traditional use.
Q. Do you use "Nickel" or "German Silver"?
A. No, we do not. Our primary reason is historic precedent. During the period, trade silver in our focus timeline of 1750-1790 was exclusively fabricated in Sterling Silver. There are a few instances reported of unscrupulous traders passing off "other white metal" in the mid-18th century. The context of the correspondence perceived such exchange as an act of fraud. We continue the tradition of using only .925 Sterling Silver as our material in trade silver fabrication.
